Unveiling a Unusual Steam Game Trial: Controlling a Poop in a Mission to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have discovered numerous entertaining creations from small studios. But, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game features a protagonist that is truly a dung attempting to travel to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

How you interact is easy to grasp: you only need a jump control. Across 150 challenges, encounter boss fights and access a market to acquire skins for your dung hero.

Plan your actions carefully, as a mistake requires starting over. Jump using floating orbs to propel the poop to new heights, traverse crumbling platforms, and activate switches to open hidden paths. Collect currency for buying more difficult stages as the action ramps up.

In terms of design, the demo features eye-catching stages and catchy background music. The simple art of moving basic polygons could recall gamers of beloved games like Earthbound.

Although difficult to name similar titles where you are a dung character, video games frequently incorporated fecal matter. For instance, in Death Stranding, players craft explosives from protagonist droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use dung as plant food. Unsurprisingly, fecal references shows up heavily in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already garnered significant awards, like winning at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is accessible currently on Steam, with the full game set to debut on computers on November 19.
