A widespread internet outage has disrupted dozens websites and applications around the world, as users reporting troubles accessing the internet due to difficulties at Amazon’s cloud computing service.

Soon after the start of the day (PDT) in the America (8am BST), officials reported “elevated problem frequencies and delays” for Amazon's platforms in a zone on the east coast of the United States. The ripple effect was seen to hit services globally, with the Downdetector site indicating issues with the identical platforms in different parts of the world.

The monitoring service Thousand Eyes, a platform that reports on internet outages, also reported a surge in problems on Monday morning, including several cases found in Virginia, the region of the AWS US-East-1 zone where officials confirmed the outage started.
